As war looms over the J Star System, the Quad’s surviving Hullen have gone into hiding, but Dutch and D’avin have a clever plan to draw them out. Far away on the fringes of the J Star System, Johnny begins a desperate hunt of his own for Clara, who is missing in the notorious Rat City. With few clues and less time, John goes deep undercover in the Hackmod (humans with cybernetic implants) world, chasing Clara’s trail with an unlikely new ally.

Dutch and D’avin, with the help of an obnoxious black market dealer, are on the hunt for a weapon that will draw out the Hullen; and Johnny receives an SOS from Clara leading him into the underground world of Hackmods.

D'avin calling that one dude "guy" during that opening fight was the most Toronto thing, it was adorable. Though I guess I find D'avin adorable in general.

They're in touch with Johnny! But no Clara? New hackmod instead? I think I feel a bit weird about the revolving door of techy, frowny, rock and roll chicks. But I love Ollie's scowly face when she thinks Johnny is being dumb. I bet we'll see it a lot. I guess the hackmods are bringing a brand new b story? Not sure how I feel about potentially being done with Old Town. Was that one hackmod in…blackface? It looked better on set, I hope.

lol D'avin and Johnny having the same reaction to new powers. lol that the Killjoys (plus monk and bartender) had an escape plan that involved D'avin taking his shirt off.

Johnny called Dutch his platonic life partner. I feel like we didn't get a lot of textual stuff on that last season. But they're already lying to each other already, sigh.

Lots of great setup in this ep. Though they're gonna defeat the Hullen *and* free the hackmods? That's a lot of earnestly fighting for great justice compared to when they used to catch bad guys. Bring it, Killjoys! I am rested and hydrated and my body is ready.

He's not in blackface - he's a Ghanian-Canadian actor who lost both arms and a lot of skin in a fire, so some of his skin is grafts and doesn't match. I thought it was cool that they hired actual amputee actors for at least some of the hackmod characters!

I loved Dutch and D'avin's reaction to working in a hot environment with nudity! But Johnny and Dutch should know by now that they work best when they're honest with each other.

That is cool! Now I feel bad, which I guess I deserve for posting my flippant stream of consciousness reactions to the internet. I considered the possibility of something like that, too, but then I probably got distracted by Johnny's robot finger.

Yeah, the lack of honesty doesn't go well for Dutch and Johnny, and it's weird because Johnny got mad at people pulling this nonsense on him in season 1. Now he's the president of their club of stoic dumbbells.

I loved this episode! The season is set up and ready to go!

Favourite bits: Hackmod culture, Johnny can't stop playing with his new toy, and Dutch's violent approach to, well, everything.

Those were all best bits! It was a really fun and clean introductory episode.

I love the progression of Dutch. In season one she's still trying to get away from Khlyen and kind of ashamed of her history. In season two she's like fuck this shit, now I'm in charge. And now she's making no bones about hitting the Hullen where they live, because she's ready to do more than just defend and she knows she can. You wouldn't think violence would be a sign of maturity, but with her it kind of is.

i really loved it! it hit all the right character beats AND the cool narrative beats i love about killjoys. snark! turin's amazing hair! dutch kicking ass! d'aving being dorky and ridiculous and hate-flirting with fancy lee! FANCY LEE.

i loved that dutch kept in contact with johnny (although i'm confused re: johnny being 'presumed missing' rather than 'hunted down for killing one of the top politicians'; did they just drop this thread?), and that johnny is doing their work on his travel too, and i adored ollie, too, and her dynamics with johnny. and johnny himself was just a delight - uh-oh, where's your face? HA.

i've also really enjoyed how many new antagonists/secondary characters are women instead of Default Male.

the only thing i'm confused about is why ollie is taking a sort of replacement!clara place instead of it being, you know, clara. was there a scheduling conflict with the actress or something?

(i'm also weirdly pleased i've called some of this season's direction with my fandom5k fic - johnny and clara taking on the factory, hullens still being a thing despite arkyn's poisoning, et cetera).

Turin's hair is so lovely, lol. For Johnny, it's not like there were any witnesses to his incident with Delle Seyah? So maybe no one knows, or knows yet. There must be a lot of disappeared Killjoys so maybe in that context no one is really concerned about *why* he ran away. Johnny is forever this great mix of intense and hilarious that is right up my alley, personally. I hope he gets to stay in that zone this season. I was really glad he was talking to Dutch and D'avin (about cheese lol) rather than just suffering alone.

TPTB seem to have confirmed that yes, Clara had a scheduling conflict.

I love the idea of them taking on the factory! Liberté, égalité, and whatnot.

i'm very pleased with the factory development, because, let's face it, there was no way that johnny "bleeding heart" jaqobis would take a look at it and not get involved. and it widens the world nicely, too.

Yes I liked the Quad but I am excited to be going beyond it this year.
