SPOILERS in case [personal profile] dirty_diana hasn't got to watch yet!

This was an absolutely note-perfect Killjoys episode. It had a heist, a war, Aneela being creepy and violent, great character stuff especially for Dutch, and also advanced the overall plot. Also, Johnny and Dav's conversations were hilarious.

I really liked the division of labour between Johnny and Zeph, as well - he's much more into the jury-rigged, make-it-work, tech side; she's much more into the hardcore research and making all the pieces of the puzzle fit. I was a bit dubious when they introduced Zeph then immediately brought back Johnny, but it's actually worked really well and also given the show more chances to actually pass the Bechdel Test. Earlier, it was mostly when Delle Seyah Kendry dropped in to argue with Dutch or Pawter.

I agree it was definitely classic Killjoys, and the plot advancement was awesome, and with basically everything you said. It did feed into an annoyance I'm having with this season, though: Johnny becoming the Guy in the Van. He basically just advises D'avin and tries to get Dutch to Talk To Him, then does tech stuff from the ship. His character was a lot more three-dimensional last season.

Conversely, D'avin seems to have absorbed all that three-dimensionality and more, because wow he's fabulous this season.

(I posted something long and ranty about this episode on my personal journal, but it's locked, :/ )

Most essential takeaway from this episode for me: Everyone but Johnny knows. Obviously, in terms of foreshadowing, this means Johnny's either going to Figure Out the Workaround, or do something Incredibly Inadvisable. Probably with Zeph's help. Because Johnny and Zeph actually working together is my new platonic OTP.

It's true; D'avin has gone the longest without doing something completely batshit (which isn't really fair to Dutch, I suppose, since that's pretty much the definition of her character, sometimes).

I agree that Johnny has gotten some -- he can operate on his own! And be competent! But it sort of feels like once they got that out of the way, he just regressed into the guy in the van. Ah, well. I think an interesting solution would have been Zeph and Johnny bonding / confiding about shit. That would have given him team development, an ability to grow as a character, and involvement in the current plot. So far, Dutch is the only one with whom Zeph has really had any concrete relationship-building-time.

Second on something inadvisable. ♥ them.

I agree. Unless everything is building up to him doing something Utterly Incredible, I'd love to just see him getting more dialogue, and getting into the current plot more. Hopefully we'll see that! We've got two left. It could happen.

Do we know if Killjoys is renewed for next season? I've heard both "undecided" and "yes," but if you know for sure, that would be awesome.

I think my favorite moment was when A'Neela found Kendry:

"Do you want to go torture Gander for a bit?"

"Yes, torture. And ice cream."

LOL!

I'm with you on Dutch's plotline. I'm not a fan, and it doesn't feel well-thought-out. I've had three conversations with three separate people on facts that've come up that contradict one another (DNA, memory, green). And since we know it's not going to happen (unless Killjoys pulls a GOT and is totally willing to kill - even temporarily - the main character; we all saw how well that worked in Robin Hood).

Jelco was probably my favorite part of that episode, NGL. He was hysterical. (Also I love his actor. Just. He's so much fun.)

I hope I'm not confused, because I was on vacation so I watched two episodes at once, and I'm pretty sure this is the one that had me crying with tears of laughter the entire time. The banter was out of this world.

D'av: "We have to fight Hullen dirty."
Johnny: "What, like, ass to mouth?"
