Date: 2017-08-08 03:49 pm (UTC)I think there have always been hints of Dutch taking these fights too personally, but it's cranked up to eleven this year. You're only one person, Dutch!
The burial ceremony was interesting to see though I always wish the show differentiated this tree religion a bit more rather than just being vague medieval Christianity.
locked box mystery! fun. Dutch calling Alvis an attention whore activist, and Alvis copping to it made me laugh really hard. Yay for the return of Alvis and Alvis' biceps.
Delle Seyah Kendry bet on the wrong power-mad horse that is AMAZING. I love Delle being out of her depth. Did the big gay feelings blind her a bit? And Aneela is actually sad/homicidal about it? About Delle in specific, or tired of being lonely in general? We thought Aneela was Palpatine, but she's actually Darth Vader? Literally Darth Vader, with the Force choking. Dark lesbian queen love story, weirdly unexpected by me but I am here for it.

Date: 2017-08-10 01:57 am (UTC)Otherwise, I loved everything about this episode. All the little character moments -- D'avin and Dutch, Johnny and Lucy (OTP <3), Dutch and Alvis, Dutch and the Nine guy at the end ("... yeah, we're still leaving," ha!). Very tricky of ... Pawter's sister to pretend illness like that to lead Johnny astray.
I guessed the seeds far, far earlier than the episode seemed to expect of the viewer; if they had ever shown that ritual before, maybe it wouldn't have been so obvious. (ETA: I agree with the previous commenter -- can't see who in this edit window -- that putting communion and indulgences into the otherwise neatly different religion is a bit unoriginal.)

Date: 2017-08-11 04:28 pm (UTC)It was cool to see Pawter's sister again, but I don't know if we knew her well enough for her revenge fog to be that interesting. Tricky plan but why was she even blaming the Nine?
The religion comment was me! I didn't think much about the seeds just because I was officially tired of tree Christianity. I also remember some benediction stuff in S1. And 12 went to Arkyn, really? Why 12 when there are an infinite number of numbers to choose from that don't call to mind the Abrahamic religions. I guess the bleeding and suffering arguably shows up in a bunch of existing faiths, but the way it's presented strikes me as very mortification of the flesh-y. Maybe this filter is actually coming from me, I don't know.

Yay for the return of Alvis and Alvis' biceps.
YAY INDEED. This ep gave me all the shipper feels for both Dutch/D'Avin and Dutch/Alvis. I think Alvis might be winning, but that could turn on a dime.
We thought Aneela was Palpatine, but she's actually Darth Vader? Literally Darth Vader, with the Force choking.
OMG I LOVE VADER!ANEELA SO MUCH. I loved how that homage was so deliberately obvious, and yet the emotion of the moment made it work SO WELL.
And yes, with all her political savvy, who would have thought that Delle's power instincts would fail her? I'm UGH with the forced pregnancy storyline, but I trust the writers of this show enough to handle it well. Delle is going to be PISSED.

Date: 2017-08-12 07:51 pm (UTC)Right? It's kind of weird to be rooting for the bad guy but she's so charismatic and I hope she claws her way back to power? Even if it's with a questionable Hullen baby in tow. (It occurs to me that a line in this week's ep may clarify why the Hullen would even bother, which I was kind of wondering about.)

Also: "Luke. I am your father!"
Maybe D'Avin is General Organa? Especially after this week's developments.

Date: 2017-08-13 04:15 pm (UTC)Dutch is the purer side of Aneela, *and* she's basically a baby made from pure Force energy! Ergo, Aneela is Darth Vader and Dutch is Anakin Skywalker. :)
